Political Experience
State Senator Connie Williams (D-17th, Delaware and Montgomery) was elected to the Senate of Pennsylvania in November 2001. Her committee assignments in Harrisburg include Democratic Chair of Communications and Technology, Aging and Youth, Education, and Finance. She is co-chair of the Pennsylvania New Democrat Coalition and a member of the:
  • Governor’s Advisory Committee on Minority and Women Business Opportunities
  • Pennsylvania Public Television Network Commission
  • Joint House and Senate Autism Caucus
  • Senate Firefighters and Emergency Services Caucus
  • Arthritis and Osteoporosis Caucus

Prior to becoming a senator, she served five years in the Pennsylvania House, representing part of Lower Merion Township, Upper Merion Township, and the Borough of West Conshohocken. In the House, she founded and co-chaired the House Children’s Caucus. She is a former chair of the Democratic Committee of Lower Merion and Narberth.
 
Professional Experience
Senator Williams’ prior professional experience included consulting for the Pennsylvania Small Business Development Centers and serving as a program officer for the Eisenhower Exchange Fellowships and as the economic development and small business coordinator for Pennsylvania’s 13th Congressional District. Governor Edward G. Rendell recently appointed her to serve on the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts Board of Directors.

She is a trustee at The Episcopal Academy, a former trustee at Barnard College, The Baldwin School, and Pine Manor College, and a member of the Trustees’ Council of Penn Women and the Forum of Executive Women.

She also is a member of the:

  • Board of Directors of the Greater Valley Forge Transportation Management Association
  • Montgomery County Seat Economic Revitalization Committee
  • National Museum of American Jewish History Board
  • Valley Forge and Haverford Optimists
  • Harcum College AIM Program Advisory Board
  • Board of Directors of Steppingstone Scholars Inc. (Chairperson)

She served on the VFW Post 7878’s “100th Anniversary of the VFW” planning committee in 1999.

Awards
The Senator has won several awards over the past few years, including:

  • Greater Valley Forge Transportation Management Association Legislative Leadership Award, 2004
  • Service and Support Award, Senior Citizen Center of Ardmore, 2004
  • Montgomery County March of Dimes Woman of Distinction, 2003
  • King of Prussia Chamber of Commerce at Valley Forge Award for Excellence in Public Service, 2003
  • Delaware County Chamber of Commerce Free Enterprise Award, 2002
  • Catalyst Award of the Pennsylvania Arts in Education Partners, 2002
  • Upper Merion Area School District Partners in Education Award, 2001

Personal
Senator Williams received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Barnard College and an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. She resides in Haverford with her husband, who is a professor of medicine. The couple has two daughters.
